Role Overview
To support our rapid growth, we seek an experienced Clinical Document Integrity (CDI) Engagement leader to join Chartis in our High-Reliability Care Solutions (HRC) practice, aligned to our Clinical Transformation line of business.
Engagement Managers are integral members of our consulting teams, leading Analysts, Associate Consultants and Consultants on projects with healthcare provider clients typically spanning 3-6 months in duration. Engagements do vary in duration and are supported by teams of Consultants and Analysts. Within our HRC practice, we have several offerings all focused on improving quality, safety, and reliability.
The Engagement Manager focused on CDI will lead a variety of complex projects in the areas of quality, patient safety, and clinical documentation improvement.
Responsibilities
Lead the problem-solving process and day-to-day management of engagement teams, including overseeing teams’ analysis and deliverables, often coordinating with subcontractors as well as consulting team members.
Apply thought leadership to client engagements, generating actionable insights that drive meaningful improvement for the firm’s clients, developing frameworks and approaches with broad potential impact.
Build and maintain client relationships drawing upon healthcare knowledge and insights to address issues within and beyond the scope of specific consulting engagements.
Create sophisticated, compelling communications that motivate clients to action.
Act as a coach and mentor to junior staff, rapidly developing their skills and knowledge through an apprenticeship-based development model.
Help build the firm’s portfolio of business through support of client proposals, participation in industry events, and other marketing activities.
Contribute to firm initiatives focused on talent (e.g., recruiting, training), knowledge (e.g., IP development, white papers), and other core areas.
Qualifications and Desired Skills
Bachelor's degree required, master's degree highly preferred
RN required; candidates must have had experience in a clinical setting along with a CDI background at the hospital setting
Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) certification required
5+ years of demonstrated experience working in a hospital/health system in a Clinical Documentation Specialist or leadership role
Advanced clinical expertise and extensive knowledge of complex disease processes with a broad clinical experience in an inpatient setting
Knowledge of coding rules and guidelines required
Extensive knowledge of regulatory systems and Medicare Part A
Ability to conduct medical record reviews and assess clinical severity of patients
Robust understanding of the quality improvement process and risk-adjustment methodologies used in ratings and rankings platforms (e.g., Elixhauser comorbidities, HCCs, SOI, ROM, POA, etc.)
Recent demonstrated experience performing inpatient chart audits including cc/mcc optimization and risk adjustment
Experience leveraging grouper logic and various benchmarking tools to evaluate documentation integrity and performance trends
Robust understanding of risk adjustment specific to Mortality improvement, along with other clinically relevant tactics for improving observed to expected ratios
In-depth knowledge on PSIs and exclusion criteria
Demonstrated Experience developing and executing Clinical documentation specialist (CDS) and physician education
3-5 years of experience delivering healthcare consulting in a professional services firm
Ability to prioritize client patient safety/organizational vulnerabilities with understanding of core/systemic issues
Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills.
Superior communicator able to convey insights in a way that motivates clients to action, both verbally and in presentations and proposals.
Strong people leader, adept at managing team’s work while developing colleagues’ capabilities
Ability to work collaboratively under tight deadlines and while managing multiple priorities
Advanced skills in MS Excel, Access, and PowerPoint
Ability to travel up to 80%

Salary range: $192,000 to $245,000 plus may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. The salary range for this role considers the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skills, experience, training, licensure and certifications, practice area, and other business and organizational needs.
