Next Step Community Solutions is a Tyler, Texas-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization working in the areas of education, training, counseling, and mentoring, with particular focus in substance misuse prevention and adolescent mental health. Our office is located at 305 South Broadway Avenue, Ste. 200, Tyler, TX.

General Description

Next Step Community Solutions is seeking a Program Coordinator to support the implementation of youth-focused prevention and behavioral health programming across East Texas. This position delivers group discussion-based instruction to youth across program sites including schools, juvenile probation offices, and Disciplinary Alternative Education Programs. These programs are designed to build resilience, help students identify strengths, and support better goal setting and decision making. The Program Coordinator also provides direct program support for Sources of Strength and other youth suicide prevention initiatives, and serves as a regional resource for schools and community partners around suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention response.

Primary Job Functions

Program Implementation & Instruction

Provide group discussion-based instruction to youth across all program sites, including schools, juvenile probation offices, and Disciplinary Alternative Education Programs (DAEPs).

Provide direct program support for schools implementing youth suicide prevention programs in the identified region, including Sources of Strength.

Plan lessons with essential components that lead to student achievement.

Training & Capacity Building

Pursue certification as a Sources of Strength Provisional Trainer during the 2025–2026 school year by attending a week-long, out-of-state training hosted by National Sources of Strength Trainers.

Conduct initial and booster Sources of Strength training in regional schools.

Provide support to all staff, instructors, trainers, and volunteers who participate in the development and implementation of prevention and behavioral health programs.

School & Community Engagement

Respond promptly to requests for support and program information from designated schools and program sites.

Provide postvention support to schools in the region impacted by deaths by suicide, in coordination with the Program Manager and Program Director.

Establish and maintain a repository of mental health and related resources at the regional, state, and national levels to support schools responding to suicidal ideation, attempts, and deaths by suicide.

Serve as a subject matter expert on youth suicide prevention and behavioral health for schools and community stakeholders in the identified region.

Promote and represent Next Step Community Solutions at all relevant opportunities, including school association meetings, events, speaking engagements, and tabling opportunities.

Communication & Coordination

Facilitate student intake, assessments, and oversight of student data.

Maintain current and accurate information on school and program site contacts, activities, and action steps.

Provide information to and facilitate communication among schools implementing suicide prevention programs.

Provide professional, regular communication with Next Step team members regarding program implementation status.

Create comprehensive meeting agendas and ensure necessary materials are prepared.

Assist in the coordination and execution of events, including logistics, venue arrangements, and attendee coordination.

Reporting & Data

Attend to the timely collection of thorough and complete data from cohort schools and program sites in the identified region.

Craft visually compelling presentations and deliver engaging talks to diverse audiences.

Professional Development

Actively participate in professional development opportunities that support youth suicide prevention, behavioral health, and juvenile justice to increase knowledge and expertise at local, state, and national levels.

Bachelor's degree in administration, communication, counseling, education, psychology, social work, or a related field; relevant experience will be considered in place of a completed degree

Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams

Experience working with school personnel and/or in school settings

Experience with creating and supporting systems change

Computer experience and basic computer fluency

Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others

Strong organizational skills

Strong oral and written communication skills

Strong interpersonal skills in working with diverse populations

Flexibility in assigned work hours

Travel Requirements

During the school year, this position requires travel approximately 60% of the time to schools and program sites in and around East Texas

During the summer, travel is reduced to approximately 20%

Must have a valid Texas Driver's License and proof of auto insurance

Compensation & Schedule

Salary: $46,500–$52,500 per year

Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM; Friday, 8:00 AM–12:00 PM

Physical Requirements
