Job Title: Risk Management Coordinator
Job Summary: To provide coordination and support of the University of Mississippi Medical Center's risk management review process. To participate in the review, evaluation, monitoring, measuring and adjustment of all patient care and associated claims; participates in the development of risk minimization program.
Education & Experience Education and Experience Required:
Two (2) year of RN experience in a hospital setting.
Certifications, Licenses or Registration Required:
Valid RN License. Certified Professional Healthcare Risk Management from the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management or Certified Professional in Patient Safety from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement required post-hire within 18 months.
Preferred Qualifications:
Risk Management or quality safety experience.

Knowledge of nursing theory and practice. Knowledge and understanding of clinical organization structure, workflow, and operating procedures. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Ability to manage multiple priorities under time constraints; ability to analyze and solve problems. Responsibilities
Reviews patient medical records and collects data for legal and risk management analyses, studies, and monitoring.
Conducts legal research, prepares opinions of counsel, and identifies legal issues to develop effective strategies and solutions. Guides providers on patient disclosure and supports early resolution following medical errors.
Participates in system-wide measurement initiatives related to risk assessment and management; prepares and presents biannual reports on risk management and quality indicators.
Assists in reviewing clinical practices for quality improvement and loss control; recommends corrective actions; ensures adherence to policy and consistency of care; inputs data and prepares reports.
Oversees risk management and patient safety policies and ensures compliance with current TJC standards across hospitals and clinics.
Provides timely, professional customer service and leads investigations and responses to external agency inquiries regarding risk management and quality of care issues. Agencies include: TJC, Mississippi Department of Health, Patient Safety Organizations, Leapfrog, and the Mississippi Attorney General.
